PK CONTROVERSY - Aamir's 'PK' Gets Banned by Maratha Mandir and Gaiety - Manoj Desai's Reaction - Three of the oldest and most strategic single-theatres in Mumbai have decided to forgo the grand privilege of releasing the 'film of the year'.
We're talking about Raj Kumar Hirani's PK. Regular patrons of Gaiety-Galaxy and Maratha Mandir (the latter being the venue for Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge for a 1000 weeks now) will be deprived of watching the new Aamir Khan-starrer.
Reason? Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra wants a substantially increased price for the film which means a hike in the ticket rates of nearly a 100 per cent for the theatres.
Ostensibly angry Manoj Desai, the owner of the three theatres, says, "That's right we're not releasing PK. The reason is Mr Vinod Chopra is demanding an unreasonable price. We've been trying to reason with him for three days. But to no avail. So now I have no choice but to reluctantly move on. We're screening the superhit Telugu film Lingaa instead."
